“What'd you call me?”

Pervert, deviant, queer, pansy, fag, dyke, straight, bi, third (or fourth!) sex, slut, whore, kiki, butch, femme, grrl, boi, mollycoddle, and just strange. Names. Names hurt, names diagnose and stigmatize, names get reclaimed, names can help us find people or find books about them on the shelves. People get called lots of things, and Cornell has contributed to the naming by inspiring the Library of Congress to add "Bears (Gay culture)" and "Butch and femme (Lesbian culture)" to its sacred list of official subject headings.
