Many games help to preserve identity through oral tradition. These games can strengthen cultural identity in times of globalization or threat. Singing games, for example, help to recall specific historical figures and events and to pass on lessons learned by previous generations. Because these games preserve information about the past, they can offer evidence about the time and environment in which they were created.
