Sermones.
Latin manuscript.
Germany. 1495.

Although today we are accustomed to books that are transportable and readily accessible, this was not the case with the medieval book. Codex manuscripts were expensive and scarce, and libraries took measures to protect them from theft or loss. This manuscript, a compendium of sermons, is bound in pigskin-wrapped wooden boards, and was fastened to the library shelf with a chain in order to prevent the user from removing it from the area.
