A National Movement Coalesces

Three national organizations formed in New York City in 1973: the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force (NGLTF), originally the National Gay Task Force (NGTF); the Lambda Legal Defense and Education Fund; and Parents, Families, and Friends of Lesbians and Gays (PFLAG). All continue to play a significant role in LGBT politics today.
