Context: Framed, in Fuertes Room, Brewster Wing of the Cornell Laboratory of Ornithology.. White-tailed Ptarmigan: winter plumage.. The paintings in the Fuertes Room were commissioned by Frederick Foster Brewster for the study of his 66 room Tudor-style manor house in New Haven, Connecticut, built in 1909. The study was paneled with Java teak in which were set twenty-four Fuertes paintings, ranging in size from 19"x28" to 37"x100." Brewster bequeathed the paintings and the interior of his study to the Laboratory of Ornithology. |
