Context: First section of Brewster Study Sketch Panel #1 (11 sketches).. Studies for #1209 (Canada Goose), #1214 (Red-shouldered Hawk), and #1215 (Ruffed Grouse).. Preliminary watercolor sketches for a group of paintings commissioned by Frederick Foster Brewster for the study of his 66 room Tudor-style manor house in New Haven, Connecticut (built in 1909). The study was paneled with Java teak in which were set twenty-four Fuertes paintings, ranging in size from 19"x28" to 37"x100." Brewster bequeathed the paintings and the interior of his study to the Laboratory of Ornithology. |
