BIOGRAPHICAL NOTE

Rachel Aimee cofounded $pread magazine with Audacia Ray in 2004 and was an editor-in-chief for four and a half years. The magazine was published independently from 2005 to 2011, and succeeded at building distribution for its print copies at a time when a lot of media was shifting to online access. Utne magazine gave it Independent Press awards in 2005 as Best New Title and Award for Best Online Political Coverage. Subtitled "Illuminating the Sex Industry," it was a forum for writing by sex workers and advocated for their rights. In March 2015, the Feminist Press issued an edited anthology of some of the best work from the magazine, which includes perspective on its history and its continuing impact since it stopped publishing.
