This corporate headquarters in a suburban setting is a reinforced concrete structure
placed across a ravine so that a terraced podium connects the high ground on each
side, from which rises a main office building of three stories with a large central
court and a one-story executive building. Service floors and parking are below the
podium, resulting in the minimum possible change to the character of the original
site. Sasaki, Dawson & DeMay were the landscape architects.

Chase Manhattan Bank, Operations Center (Chase Financial Services Center, Metrotech,
Brooklyn, New York
|
|||
Scope and Contents
The major operations center for the bank, Chase Metrotech consists of a two building
complex whose large lower floors act as a podium for the slender 23-story tower. The
simple geometric forms and the use of such detailing as corbelled brick corners respond
sympathetically to the character of the neighboring 19th-century landmarked houses.
At the same time, the backlit tower distinguishes the complex on the Brooklyn skyline.

Scope and Contents
The Islamic Cultural Center of New York comprises a 1,000-person mosque, an assembly
room, and minaret (the latter designed by the architectural firm of Swanke Hayden
Connell). It was the first religious center built for New York's Muslim community
and, with its minaret and copper-clad, precast dome, creates a striking presence in
its Upper East Side community. The building is rotated on its site to face Mecca,
breaking out of the city street grid. SOM's original master plan also called for an
administrative building containing classrooms, a library, offices, a conference hall,
an apartment for the Imam, and a 20-car parking garage(unbuilt).
