Biographical / Historical

Company started in 1825 by Robert Bacon to make hats. John H. Bacon and Charles N. Bacon later joined the company. Twenty-five years later it began manufacturing all-wool sheet felt for the wallpaper trade, marble polishing and other mechanical uses. It also made felt wheels for polishing & burnishing. The company was bought by Stanley & Samuel McNeily in 1941. Includes 2 letterbooks, 1869-1870 and 1873. Also includes 1979 newspaper article on history of company.

Contains incoming correspondence, 1869-1870, 1873, concerning both business and family matters. Also includes a newspaper clipping from the Winchester Star, Oct. 25, 1979, giving a history of the company
