COLLECTION DESCRIPTION

Images depicting two baseball teams posed in front of the Olive Hotel in Miles City, Montana, the second dinner of the Boston Wool Trade Association, held at the Copley-Plaza Hotel in Boston on January 11, 1913, a group of wool buyers posed outdoors in front of railroad cars in Miles City, Mt., in the season of 1911, a group of wool buyers in Jericho, Utah, either 1929 or 1930, and a partial view of the annual dinner of the Boston Wool Trade Association in 1941.

Gelatin silver print. Image depicts two baseball teams posed in front of the Olive Hotel in Miles City, Montana. The teams were the railroad men versus the wool buyers; the railroad men are the second row, decked out in pith helmets. The wool buyers are the front row. Many are identified on the reverse of the photo (in some cases including the company for whom they worked), including a number of the bystanders in the back row, several of whom are horse buyers, and the umpire who is at the far left of the second row. Note the umpire carries two six-shooters in his waistband. Several men on both teams carry baseball gloves; one in the front row holds a baseball bat. 17.75 x 13 cm. (w/out mount); 28 x 22.75 cm. Gelatin silver print, 1929-1930. Image depicts group of wool buyers in Jericho, Utah, either 1929 or 1930. All are dressed in three-piece suits, wearing hats. Note the bags of wool behind them and the pile of wool--both black and white--in the foreground. Most of the individuals are identified. This image from the collection of the Boston Wool Trade Association. According to the donor, these buyers worked for competing firms. They bid competitively, but after 5 p.m. they all went for drinks together. 21.25 x 14.5 cm. (w/out mount); 34.5 x 26 cm. (w/mount).

Fay Foto Service, Inc., Boston, photographer. Gelatin silver print. Image depicts a partial view of the annual dinner of the Boston Wool Trade Association in 1941. There is a long table set up lengthwise in the background (probably for speakers and officers) with a microphone directly in front of it. Above the table is a large banner hung on the balcony, "Welcome 1941 Boston Wool Trade" with the Boston Wool Trade Association logo in the center of 1941. Circular banquet tables are set up on the floor and on the balcony; there are at least 90 tables in the room (table no. 90 is in the center balcony). The attendees visible are all men wearing tuxedos. See accession folder for list of those attending. 34.5 x 27 cm.
