The Louisville Cotton Mills was established in 1888. By 1900 this spinning mill
employed two hundred and forty employees on fifteen thousand ring and mule spindles.
The Louisville Textile company was incorporated in 1919 by the directors of the
Louisville Cotton Mills. The new company operated forty looms in the production of
marquisette. In 1931 the two merged and continued operation under the name of
Louisville Textile Co.. In 1940 they operated twenty-six thousand spindles and one
hundred and seventy-four looms, manufacturing hosiery yarn and cotton and rayon
cloth used for draperies, bedspreads, and upholstery.
