Biographical / Historical

From 1945 to late 1961, while serving as Executive Secretary of the RLEA in Washington, A.E. Lyon was assigned the task of representing American railway labor on the Executive Committee - or governing body - of the International Transport Workers' Federation, commonly called ITF. During this initial and imporant phase of the Marshall Plan program, he was one of three labor members of the Public Advisory Board of the Economic Cooperation Administration. For many years he served on the Department of Labor's Trade Union Advisory Committee on International Labor Affairs. A.E. Lyons was the only labor member of the U.S. National Commission for the Pan-American Railway Congress. He was delegate to sessions of the Inland Transport Committee of the International Labor Organization. Almost the entire 17 year period while in Washington, he was a recognised spokesman and rep of the railway labor movement.

This is intended to be a collection of historical sketches, recollection of events and experiences, and expressions of A.E. Lyon's opinions and versions of successes and failures all with respect to American railroad labor's interest in what is generally called International Labor Affairs.
