Biographical / Historical

The Board of Inquiry for the Maritime Industry of the United States was appointed on August 17, 1948, pursuant to Section 206 of the Labor-Management Relations Act, 1947. Executive Order 9987, Creating a board of inquiry to report on certain labor disputes affecting the maritime industry of the United States, was issued on August 17, 1948.
Saul Wallen chaired the Board of Inquiry. Joseph L. Miller and Julius Kass also served on the board.

This collection consists of reports, briefs, and a transcript relating to a dispute between the New York Shipping Association and the International Longshoremen's Association.
