Doris Mitchell was born on August 21, 1903 in Tecumseh,
Michigan. When she was eight, her family moved to New York,
and then to Ithaca when Doris was 15. Doris went to Cornell
intending to become a librarian, but decided instead to study
home economics. She graduated in the first class of the College
of Home Economics in 1925. Doris taught home economics at a
public school in Pennsylvania for six years before she decided
to come back to Cornell for her Masters degree in home economics.
From there Doris taught at three other public middle and high
schools, the last of which was in Cortland where Doris taught
until she retired in 1962. Doris is now 97 years old and a resident
of Oak Hill Manor Nursing Home in Ithaca. |
