Collectors Today

Introduction

Building on the founding collections of Cornell University’s first president, Andrew Dickson White, and first librarian, Willard Fiske, collectors today have immeasurably enriched Cornell’s culture of learning and discovery. Cornell’s Division of Rare and Manuscript Collections is fortunate in the many alumni and friends who have turned their talents to book collecting.

A single individual, through dedicated and imaginative collecting, may substantially influence what future generations can know about history. This exhibition celebrates libraries, collectors, and booksellers and their shared devotion to rare books and scholarship.

Cornell University Library gratefully acknowledges the current generation of collectors who, through their magnificent gifts, continue to transform Cornell and the scholarly community by providing transformative experiences for students and researchers.
