Masterpieces from the Hill Ornithology Collection
June 10 - September 30, 1999
On view in Cornell University's Carl A. Kroch Library is the exhibition "Beautiful Birds" which traces the development of ornithological illustration in the 18th and 19th centuries and highlights the changing techniques - from wood and metal engraving to chromolithography - during that period.
The Division of Rare and Manuscript collections has developed a web site for this exhibition that provides not only a "virtual tour" of the gallery but also an online guide to the entire Hill Ornithology collection and a database of images from the books.
"Beautiful Birds" is on display in the Kroch Library Exhibition Gallery through September 30, 1999. Viewing hours are Monday Friday from 9:00 to 5:00, and on Saturday afternoons from 1:00 to 5:00 pm while classes are in session (not during the summer).
