HISTORY

On June 24, 1989, ten women picnicking at Durand Eastman Beach, a public park within the City of Rochester, NY, were arrested for violation of Section 245.01 of the New York State Penal Law which threatens women, but not men, with criminal sanctions for revealing their breasts below the top of the areola in a public space. The women asserted their rights to topfree equality.
