BIOGRAPHICAL NOTE

Thirteen settlers in Bergen (then Northampton), N.Y., formed a Religious Congregational Society in 1807. After several false starts, a First Congregational Church was organized in 1817, and the Rochester Presbytery provided a minister two years later. A split in membership in 1828 led to the creation of the splinter Stone Church. The First Church moved into its present building in 1854. In the 1870s the church joined the Genesee Presbytery.
