ORGANIZATIONAL HISTORY

The Baptist Church of Middlesex and Gorham, whose meetings were held at Forbes Corners in Rushville, was accepted into fellowship as a church by the Ontario Association on July 21, 1815. On March 1, 1819 the church officially incorporated, elected trustees, and took the name the First Baptist Church and Society of Middlesex and Gorham.
In 1842 the first Baptist Church erected a house of worship in Bethel (now known as Gorham village) and renamed itself the Bethel Baptist Church. There was another Baptist Church in Gorham at this time (Collection #6132). Many of its members joined the Bethel Baptist Church and its remaining members relocated at Reed's Corners as the Reed's Corners Baptist Church.
