The First Baptist Society of Gorham joined the Ontario Association on October 5, 1806
although no record of the society's official organization appears in the records
until 1823. Worship took place in Gorham until 1841, when the congregation split
into two groups. Most of the members accepted an invitation to unite with the Bethel
Baptist Church, while the remaining members formed the Reed's Corners Baptist
Church.
Five volumes of covenant meeting minutes (1804-1815, 1815-1830, 1830-1841, 1852-1948)
with numerous disciplinary cases throughout and lists of church members. Also
included is one volume of trustee meeting minutes (1823-1868) which documents the
financial and legal affairs of the church.
