The first Methodist class of Cohocton was formed in 1816 when services were held by
Reverend Adgate and Reverend Micah Segar. Early religious services were held in
schools and quarterly meetings and large conferences met in barns or woods. In the
summer of 1842 revivals occurred in the woods of William Shepard. The church was
legally organized in 1846. That same year a church building was erected, and
Reverend Joseph Chapman became the first minister. In 1947 the church burned to the
ground, and shortly thereafter a new building was erected.
One volume of trustee records (1846-1907) and a one volume register lsiting baptisms,
marriages, members, classes and probationers.
