Scope and Contents
This letter from a father to his son, who is in an asylum, updates him on family news
and events which have occurred since the son was presumed lost, and relates the story
of another missing person, Alfred, who disappeared between Lowell and Thompson (possibly
in Michigan, as Battle Creek is mentioned).

Letter from Clary Fry, Jabez's wife, to her brother-in-law Richard Fry. She was in
California c. Civil War.

Scope and Contents
Clary relates the hardships of life including drought (which left her with so little
corn that she had to use wheat to fatten the hogs), and disease. She and her children
have been affected with typhoid lamonia (sic) of the lungs and inflammation of the
lungs. She hopes that God will spare her children. She has had to accept assistance
from the town, and asks for money to pay her taxes.
