During the 1930s Daniel McAvoy was a consultant for the Federal government on
refinancing home mortgages. He served as secretary of the Home Mortgage Advisory
Board and the national Smaller Business Council. He and his brother, Charles F.
McAvoy, built homes in Forest Hills, Queens, and the Five Towns area of Nassau
County, New York in the first decade of the 1900s. In 1948 he opened his own office
in New York City as a broker, appraiser, and housing consultant, and was a pioneer
in the development of prefabricated housing units.
