Hong Fort Chew Casert
|
1947 |
Scope and Contents
Hong Fort Chew was an immigrant who was to be deported. He had served briefly in
the Army during World War II but was discharged (honoably) due to language difficulties.
He could not prove that his father, a local laundryman in Dunkirk, was, in fact, his
father, because of the Chinese custom of not keeping birth records. Various petitions
that the man be allowed to stay labelled "Clergy," "Doctors," etc. There is, however,
no indication of the outcome of the affair.
