Professor Hohendahl's teaching and research interests include eighteenth to twentieth century German literature, especially Enlightenment, Vormärz (Heine, Büchner), and Modernism (Benn, Jünger); intellectual history; literary, political and social theory with emphasis on Critical Theory (Adorno, Benjamin, Habermas); comparative literature with emphasis on eighteenth and nineteenth-century European literature and philosophy; history of science with emphasis on the humanities (history of German studies, history of the university). Editor of the monograph series Signale: Modern German Letters, Cultures, and Thought, published by Cornell University Press.
