Images depict the Neptune Twine and Cord Mills in Moodus, Conn., and the "tourist
attraction" of Johnsville, built on a site near the mill by Raymond C. Schmitt when
he bought the mill in the mid-1960s. The school house, chapel, general store, and
livery stable were purchased elsewhere and moved to the site. It did not suceed as
a tourist attraction and was closed in 1994.

Gelatin silver print. Image depicts the Gilead Chapel, located on Neptune Green, across
from the Johnson home in Moodus, Conn. Structure is a one-story building with a steep
pitched roof, with bell tower. Emory Johnson and his son, E. Emory Johnson, operated
the Neptune Twine and Cord Mills for 38 years. Moodus is a village in the town of
East Haddam, Conn. Photo taken in winter, probably at Christmas time. 20.25 x 25.25

silver print. Image depicts the Neptune Mill as it looked at Christmas 1971. Building
is three-story clapboard with a bell tower (see item 1 in this folder for a close-up
of the bell tower). The Neptune Mill was part of the Neptune Twine and Cord Mills.

Twine and Cord Mills, along with his son E. Emory Johnson, for 38 years between 1867
and 1905. The home was lived in by four generations of Johnsons, and was built in
1845. At the time of this photo, it was furnished in Victorian rococco style, including
a Belter parlor suite and bed. Photo taken at Christmas 1971. Moodus is a village
