Halftone. Image depicts Davis (1846-1886), a partner in Davis & Furber Machine Co. beginning in 1868. Davis is seen from the chest up, wearing a dark jacket buttoned up over a white shirt and dark tie. He has a very full beard. Davis was the son of George Lucien Davis and the brother of George Gilbert Davis, all associated with Davis & Furber Machine Co. in North Andover, Mass. James Henry Davis succeeded his brother as superintendent of the card clothing dept. at Davis & Furber in 1880. Gleason was an employee and then partner in Gilbert, Gleason & Davis, Gleason & Davis, and Gleason, Davis & Co., all precursors of Davis & Furber Machine Co., located in North Andover, Mass.
