BIOGRAPHICAL NOTE

Custodian and member of the Building Service Employees International Union (BSEIU) Local 32E.
New York City custodian Hubert Albertz defied BSEIU union leadership by publicly protesting a dues increase. He was subsequently fired from his job and removed from his Local in the Bronx. He spent over 30 years documenting and publicizing corruption in the BSEIU and fighting for reinstatement in Local 32E.

COLLECTION DESCRIPTION

Correspondence, newspaper clippings, photographs, indictments, interviews and financial records (chiefly on 1 microfilm reel) documenting Albertz's fight to be reinstated in Local 32E and the history of corruption in the BSEIU, both within Local 32E and the International.
Individual union figures documented include Local 32E presidents Sam "Firpo" Abrams, Thomas F. "Tommy" Lewis, and Henry F. Chartier and BSEIU presidents George Scalise and David Sullivan. The collection also includes an unpublished manuscript by George Albertz entitled Local 32E : BSEIU in the Bronx : a chronicle of corruption.
