The National Federation of Miners and Mine Laborers was formed by members of the Knights
of Labor. John McBride, Chris Evans and Daniel McLaughlin, were the original founders.
The union believed in an eight hour work day, and overall better working conditions
in the mining industry. Because they did not deliver on their promises they los support
and members.
The rivalry between them and the United Mine Workers of America led to the formation
of the United Mine Workers.
