Earliest Lobbying Organizations
The Gay Rights National Lobby was founded in 1976 and became the first national organization focused exclusively on lobbying for the gay and lesbian community on Capitol Hill. The National Gay and Lesbian Task Force founded in 1973 (and known until 1985 as the National Gay Task Force) was also working to influence legislation.
