84 First Lessons in Natural History
     1st.The Bear.
Alaska had a little sheep,
   Which wandered to and fro;
And everywhere the hunters went,
   That bear was sure to go--
The day preceding them, to stamp
   Its foot-prints in the snow.
There also was a little bear,
   Essential to the tale;
And everywhere the bear would go,
   Foot-prints would never fail;
And when the eager hunters came
   To follow up its track,
The bear withdrew into the brush,
   And never answered back;
And when the eager hunters came
   To follow up its track,
The bear withdrew into the brush,
   And never answered back;
And when Miss Adams questions them,
   As to the reason why--
"Because the beasts love hunting so",
   Her patients all reply.
