The Song of the Innuit -
(With apologies to Dr. Dall.)
Oh, we are the Innuit people
   We swim o'er water's shallow
And spear the seal to get a meal
And trade the hide and tallow.
Oh we are the Innuit people
   Who fear no arctic gale.
In our kayak true or skin canoe
   We hunt the lowhead whale.
Oh we are the Innuit people
With no milkmaids pail to fill -
No [?] but a big ice-floe
No fear of a monthly bill -
Oh we are the Innuit people
fat, oily, and full of war.
We sail down the coast, steal a Munatak ghost
to make hash for a big polar [? b'ar].
Oh we are the Innuit people
The joy of the whaler lad
We are usually paid, when us make a trade,
   In whisky very bad.
Oh we are the Innuit people
No slave but to nature's own law.
Doctor Dall did declare that our maidens are fair!
He knows; for he came here and saw
Oh we are the Innuit people
   We'll remember our illustrations Dall.
For being so kind as to bear us in mind,
We thank him; he did it quite well
