Smoking Room Ode On Behring Sea.
Publish it in the smoking room -
Put it up and let it bloom -
All in type in the smoking room
Be it a sermon or be it a joke
Be it on dredging or be it on smoke
Be it a paean or be it a croak.
Pin it up and give it a boom
All in type in the smoking room.
        Dale & Fernow
        Burroughs & Johns
        Muir & Keeler
        Each responds.
On all occasions - great and small
        With rhyme or jingle
        Double & single
In verse iambic, dythrambic, trochaic and all.
        Tickling each other
         Chafing a brother
        Or making great bother
         O'er nothing at all.
From "Westward Ho" to sylian Fernow
Or Dall with his pipe pausing [?] & ripe
From Muir a-dream o'er his glacier stream
Or Johns a'fuss o'er his octopus;-
To B, touring down down to a Sparrow's crown.
Are in high glee o'er Behring sea
Whatever the theme, with wit a'gleam
Are full of fog as the captain's log
Post it up [crossed-out: in the Smoking room] and give it a boom
In the filing air of the smoking room -
Behring Sea - July 13 -   Sung by Mr. John Burroughs for the American
Phonographic Company - of New York and Paris! -
