Grouse, Ruffed
Context: Mounted in paneling in Fuertes Room, Brewster Wing of the Cornell Laboratory of Ornithology.. The paintings in the Fuertes Room were commissioned by Frederick Foster Brewster for the study of his 66 room Tudor-style manor house in New Haven, Connecticut, built in 1909. The study was paneled with Java teak in which were set twenty-four Fuertes paintings, ranging in size from 19"x28" to 37"x100." Brewster bequeathed the paintings and the interior of his study to the Laboratory of Ornithology.. Marcham, Frederick George, Louis Agassiz Fuertes & the Singular Beauty of Birds, 1971, Plate 54.
