Context: Annotation: "Allen's Jack-" "done" "Civet Cat" "done" "1-" "XXIX". Annotation: "Have this animal lengthwise on plate so to show him off to better advantage. The sketch gives too short a body and too heavy neck. Tail is same size entire length & not bulged in middle. It is not very big & bushy" "grasping a Gambel's quail" "on ledge of rock in brushy gulch" "chollas, etc. & covillea" [habitat note] [other annotations have been erased, apparently by the artist].
