BIOGRAPHICAL NOTE
Liberty Hyde Bailey established the Department of Drawing in 1908 with
William. C. Baker as its first professor. In 1917 the department was dissolved
and its work divided between Landscape Art and Rural Engineering. In 1922
Landscape Art became part of the new Department of Floriculture and Ornamental
Horticulture.
COLLECTION DESCRIPTION
This collection features art projects and assignments created in the
studio and left behind by students. Mann Library acquired these artworks when
Prof. Jack Lambert informed the library the studio was closing due to the
renovation of the Mann Library building. Included in the collection are proofs
and scratchboards done by former instructors Elizabeth Burckmyer and Ann
Elliot. Prof. Burckmyer illustrated “The Makers of Honey,” written by Mary
Geisler Phillips, and Ann Elliot designed brochures for various academic
departments at Cornell. The collection also contains a portrait of Professor
Baker.
