         <p>Collection includes manuscripts and typescripts of three novels THE SHEEPFOLD, THE
            OUTPOSTS OF COLD, and BRIEF CANDLE, short stories, poetry, reviews, critiques, and
            essays; polemics; literary studies; notes; student work; broadsides; correspondence and
            other records concerning "Epoch" and "Cornell Review"; correspondence (approximately one
            quarter of the collection) to and from Hathaway, particularly with David Ray, B.H.
            Friedman, and editors and publishers;</p>
         <p>material concerning the 1938 Michigan Hopwood Award, including submissions by Hathaway
            and "A.J. Joachim"; curriculum studies; drafts of textbooks; and publications and
            newsletters concerning national and international writing programs and humanities
            programs.</p>
         <p>The collection is well described by Hathaway's "I am interested in grammar, rhetoric,
            and poetics, intellectual and cultural history. I have spent much time on the
            development of poets and novelists, on modern literary aesthetics, on the editing of a
            literary magazine, on my own variety of transformational grammar, and on the literary
            criticism of the Renaissance and Neo-classical period.</p>
         <p>"I am also interested in work/study collaborations at Ithaca House, in publishing
            techniques and practices and the small press revolution."</p>
