Copies of correspondence, news clippings, and other documents pertaining to the Lubicon Lake Indian Nation's struggle with the Canadian government and various companies who were seeking to develop traditional Lubicon Cree lands. Press releases, letters, and articles discuss land claims, economic and social conditions, activism, and legal fights of the Lubicon Lake Cree Band. A couple of original clippings and magazine articles are also included. Includes a letter to Chief Bernard Ominayak from Mary Davis advising him of the collection's existance. Index included.

ORGANIZATIONAL HISTORY

The Lubicon Lake Cree Indian Band has been engaged in negotiations and efforts to settle their land claim since 1939. The Canadian Provincial Government had allowed the development of the land by oil companies and other industries which had lasting effects on the economy and social culture of the Lubicon Lake Band.
