Valley. Mark Miller and family took over the estate in 1957 naming it Benmarl. Ben
is Gaelic for hill and marl describes soil. Miller helped lobby to pass winery legislation
in New York. Benmarl holds N.Y. State Farm Winery Act license #1. Miller is also a
noted wardrobe designer, illustrator and author.
Collection includes information about Benmarl, press kits, publication clippings,
photographs other ephemera. Drafts of Mark Miller's book For the Love of Wine. Speeches
given by Mark Miller about the wine industry and legislation. Videos and audio tapes
regarding the winery. Information on the Benmarl Societe des Vignerons. Also some
artwork by Miller. Farm Winery License FW1 and the pen used by Governor Hugh Carey
to sign the act.
A proof and first edition copy of Mark Miller's book, Wine a Gentleman's Game, the
adventures of an amateur winemaker turned professional, are available in Rare call
