ORGANIZATIONAL HISTORY

Little is known about the origins, activities or end of this church. Indications are that the minutes from February 9, 1836 document the first formal organization since they list subscribers for the construction of the church which at times was called the First Protestant Episcopal Church of Fairville, the First Methodist Episcopal Church of Fairville, the First Society of the Methodist Episcopal Church at Fairville, and the First Methodist Society. The church building was torn down in 1978.

COLLECTION DESCRIPTION

In addition to these records the church must have had a register, as in 1850 a "recorder" was elected to obtain the names of the class members and their contributions for support of the gospel and to record them in a volume which was to be purchased for that purpose. The records consist of loose sheets containing the minutes of the Board of Trustees (1836-1842) including the certificate of incorporation and a list of subscribers. (Part I); a volume of trustee's minutes (1842-1927), 5 receipts for building supplies, and "Directions for perpetrating the Corporate existence of societies.
