BIOGRAPHICAL NOTE

Lawyer; legislator.
John R. Pillion served as a New York State Assemblyman from 1941 to 1950 and United States Congressman from 1953 to 1964.

COLLECTION DESCRIPTION

Correspondence, speeches, card files, news releases, legislative bills, tape recordings, clippings, scrapbooks, and questionnaires relating to Pillion's work as an assemblyman and congressman.
Included are correspondence with constituents; alphabetical card indexes of actions taken on each constituent's request; and correspondence, hearings, justifications, and working papers concerning appropriations for government departments, commissions, and agencies. Also, legislative and general correspondence and information files concerning state or local projects; the Antarctic Treaty and Pillion's trip to Antarctica in 1959; his opposition to statehood for Alaska and Hawaii; national issues; and foreign policy and international affairs. There are also copies of bills he introduced into Congress, speeches, news releases, tape recordings, questionnaires, clipping scrapbooks, and loose clippings.
