COLLECTION DESCRIPTION

Pamphlets, reports, periodicals, guidebooks, and brochures on a wide variety of subjects, mainly focused on New York State, including agricultural, educational, business, religious, tourism, cultural, historical, political, and social issues and activities. Agricultural topics include fruit cultivation techniques, ways to prevent plant diseases, agricultural surveys, drainage, and livestock management. Includes issues of some periodicals, such as the Bulletin of the Cornell University Agricultural Experiment Station (later the New York State Agricultural Experiment Station), the Cornell Reading-course for farmers, and Rural America. Education topics include reports from various schools in New York State, including schools for Indians and for the blind. Historical materials include many pamphlets on the history of various New York State towns, plans for centennial celebrations, and activities of historical societies. Cultural materials include an article on art at the New York World's Fair (1940) and a manuscript list of art works bought and sold at the Brooklyn Art Club's annual exhibition in 1897.
Political pamphlets include orations given by politicians on national holidays, and pamphlets for and against President Franklin Roosevelt's New Deal policies. Business pamphlets include annual reports of various companies, discussions of economic issues, and pamphlets on labor relations and management. Pamphlets on charitable and social organizations and issues include annual reports of local social clubs in various towns, reports of charitable organizations, and discussions of social issues such as world hunger. Charitable organizations covered include the Children's Aid Society (in New York City) and the Society for the Protection of Destitute Roman Catholic Children in the City of New York.
Also included are a few pamphlets on engineering and medical topics, including a pamphlet on how to build an Aladdin oven, a catalog of medical instruments, and pamphlets on sewers and public health in Ithaca, New York.
