BIOGRAPHICAL NOTE

Charles Spencer Francis (1877), and John Morgan Francis ('02) were Cornell University graduates. John Morgan Francis (1823-1897) was United States ambassador to Vienna.

COLLECTION DESCRIPTION

Scrapbooks of John Morgan Francis (1823-1897), his son Charles Spencer Francis (1853-1911), and his grandson John Morgan Francis (1879-1925), containing clippings and correspondence pertaining to Cornell University and the Cornell crews when Charles Spencer Francis and John Morgan Francis were students; copybook (Oct. 1884-Aug. 1885) of John Morgan Francis, containing copies of letters written to Francis by colleagues, friends, and family, gives insight into duties and problems of a diplomat; also comments on election of 1884; letters pertain to Cornell crew matters and the controversy between Francis and Charles E. Courtney.
