BIOGRAPHICAL NOTE

Prof. of Animal Physiology Ari Van Tienhoven taught an "AIDS and Society" class from 1989 to 1992. Near the end of the semester the first year the course was offered, students hosted an event at Willard Straight Hall at which the Cornell bear handed out condoms outside, and inside they had displays and public readings about AIDS. At this event, the students presented a bed sheet "banner" as a gift to the professor.
COLLECTION DESCRIPTION

Three scrapbooks from the "AIDS and Society" class. Includes newsclippings about, ephemera from, and photographs of the events they planned, correspondence and thank you cards, photographs of the professor, students, and Sharon J. Dittman, Sexuality and AIDS educator (1987-1990) and Coordinator of Cornell AIDS Action (1990-1992). Also, a bed sheet "banner" with comments about AIDS by students who took the class the first time it was offered.
