Helen Powell Smith joined the Department of Textiles and Clothing as Acting Assistant
Professor and extension specialist in clothing in 1937. She was appointed Assistant
Professor in 1939 and Associate Professor in 1943. In 1952 she became head of the
department, a position she held until her retirement in 1958.
