The couple met at Cornell while working on the yearbook and continue to share a deep interest in their alma mater. Both are long time members of the University Council. Diann is a former member of the Council Administrative Board while Tom is a member of the Advisory Council of the College of Arts and Sciences. They are both members of the Advisory Council of the Herbert F. Johnson Museum of Art.

The Manns have a keen interest in Civil War books, manuscripts, and photographs and have collected a number of special materials from this era. They also collect nineteenth- and twentieth-century photography and share a particular interest in the conservation and preservation of these important pieces of American art.
